The Righteous Gemstones Season 3 Episode 6 Recap
In “The Righteous Gemstones” Season 3 Episode 6 titled “For Out of the Heart Comes Evil Thoughts,” Chuck and Karl Montgomery make the decision to leave the Gemstone complex. When Jesse and his buddies prod BJ to do so, he confronts Stephen (Stephen Schneider), the man his wife had an affair with. Jesse is getting ready to tell his father about his grand intentions in the meantime. In her distinctive yet psychotic approach, Judy tries to apologize to BJ after feeling guilty. BJ goes rollerblading while still harboring his wrath and narrowly misses being hit by a car.
Jesse takes BJ to a closet to teach him how to fight after feeling sorry for him. Even brass knuckles are provided by Jesse for BJ to use against Stephen. In the meantime, Stephen’s wife demands $500,000 or she’ll reveal their infidelity to the Gemstone church. The church ultimately chooses to compensate her. Semi-retired Eli struggles to find enthusiasm in his life and takes up fishing as a way to escape the faults of his kids for a while. But while they are out fishing, Judy irritates him by admitting her “quasi-affair.”
Their mother is upset about Chuck and Karl leaving, and their interaction with the Gemstones has improved. Jesse regrets giving his cousins his beloved monster truck. When Chuck and Karl reach their father’s camp, they are welcomed as heroes but when Peter Montgomery (Steve Zahn) questions them, they deny stealing the truck.
As Jesse grows more egotistical and demands Amber’s unflinching support in guiding the church through difficult times, tensions between the two of them start to mount. Amber attempts to defend herself but is taken aback. In addition, Keefe develops resentment toward Kelvin because of their developing relationship.
Eli is against the idea of making money off of Aimee-Leigh’s hologram. Given that the plan’s creators, Jesse and Baby Billy, are Aimee-Leigh’s son and brother, he sees it as morally reprehensible and desperate. Eli is opposed to using his late wife’s death in this way, unlike Judy and Kelvin who oppose it probably because Jesse is involved.
A surprisingly violent deed brings the show to a shocking conclusion. BJ confronts Stephen, who has been contacting Judy despite their settlement, driven by humiliation and rage. When BJ arrives bearing the brass knuckles, he discovers Stephen enjoying himself in a bedroom. BJ spits on him and hits him, but Stephen wakes up and beats BJ mercilessly. When BJ gets home, he manages to flip the script and makes a strong message to Judy. Despite receiving a terrible beating, Stephen is not likely to be dead.
