Netflix‘s “Unknown: Cosmic Time Machine” is unlike anything else as a documentary offering us a glimpse into the ambitious December 2021 launch of the James Webb Space Telescope. This is due to the fact that it has not only lovely pictures but also unique interviews with prominent scientists and engineers to actually shed light on the realities of our vast cosmos. Astrophysicist Amber Straughn was one of those that appeared in this story in order to further the plot; if you’re just interested in learning more about her, we (tvacute.com) have the information you need.
Who is the Astrophysicist Amber Straughn?
Amber Straughn is an outstanding astronomer who has been passionate about the universe and space her entire life. She was raised on a cattle and pig farm in Bee Branch, Arkansas. She made the decision to become an astronomer at an early age after being inspired by the grandeur of the night sky while growing up on a farm in rural Arkansas. She would often stargaze on a blanket near her farmhouse and was inspired by the launch of the Hubble Space Telescope in 1990, which sparked her desire to be a part of the scientific world. Her pursuit of a Bachelor’s degree in Physics at the University of Arkansas was motivated by this enthusiasm, and she succeeded there, earning a Magna Cum Laude in 2002.
Amber was given the chance to conduct research with NASA in 2001 while working on a microgravity project KC-135 plane, also known as the “vomit comet,” as a result of her commitment and skill in the field of astrophysics. At Arizona State University, she completed her studies, earning a Master’s degree in 2004 and a Ph.D. in 2008. She joined NASA as a Postdoctoral Program Fellow at the Goddard Space Flight Center in Maryland after completing her studies.
